Today, the most sought after television sets are the ones who offer Liquid Crystal Display and the Samsung Model LE40B650 is one of the forerunners. Why is this model, amongst the many amazing Samsung models so sought after? One of the reasons is the very affordable pricing of this model and the fact it has the high-tech features of the most expensive LCD series of televisions out there now. The up-to-date digital qualities of this TV give it excellence in performance. This Samsung model offers the more advanced features of today’s television sets and still is a very reasonably priced unit.

With a resolution of 1920 x 1080p and a forty inch screen, the Samsung LE40B650 is an amazing value. The whites are more brilliant, the blacks more pronounced and the colors more vivid because of the Ultra Contrast display feature. Another feature is the Motion Plus 100Hz which means there is a refresh rate per second of one hundred images.

The hues are very realistic because of the Wide Color Enhance 3 that is part of the technology. One of the most innovative features is the Internet @ TV that makes it possible to use your Ultra Clear Panel screen to surf the web right on your television. There is one gigabyte content library that assists the transfer of data or stores it by using a wireless DLNA. The Dolby Digital Plus and SRS Trusurround HD are components of the built-in speakers. There is even an Ethernet port and a USB 2. 0 port to make connecting very easy.

Another built-in feature of the Samsung LE40B650 is Freeview. This means that as soon as your television is installed, there are over one hundred channels that can be assessed without the need of a monthly payment or a subscription fee many of which are high definition.

That is not all. Besides the channels there are also radio stations and the TV is interactive which brings even more entertainment into your home. There is also gaming capabilities for either console games or PC games thanks to the DLNA this makes surfing easy.

With all of these incredible and versatile features the unit is still moderately priced. The lifespan of the set is long lasting. All of these advantages make choosing the Samsung LE40B650 just about one of the best options available.

The design of this model of Samsung TV is very modern and shiny with a narrow casing making it easy to mount on the wall. This is a nice option to have if space is an issue in your home. Also, the speakers are no problem because they are literally invisible, the look of the TV is kept very compact and contemporary.

The type of screen of this model is an Ultra Clear Panel Screen with a ratio aspect of 16:9. The result of this technology makes the screen image exceptional. The screen has a rather unusual design resembling a horse-shoe kind of appearance. The overall look of this model, with its shiny almost crystal like black color, makes it a very sheik and fashionable addition to your home.

Review of the Sony Bravia KDL40W5500

December 7th, 2009

The Sony Bravia KDL40W5500 – also known as the Sony Bravia KDL40W5500U – is a 40-inch LCD TV from Sony that is brimming with extras including internet access, an on-screen instruction manual, media streaming capabilities – and, most importantly, has a stunning picture quality.

Sony has been providing its recent Bravia ranges with ever more intriguing features. Among the 40W5500 extras are a DNLA-enabled ethernet port for streaming media files from a connected computer and Sonys Net TV application called Applicast. This doesn’t give you comprehensive internet access, but it offers widgets such as calendars, clocks and a photo directory. The internet also enables the TV to download location maps to show you where any photos were taken (using a compatible GPS-enabled camera).

Features are great – but a much more important consideration in a new TV is the picture quality. And this is outstanding on the 40W5500. The colour hues, details and depth are all better than Sony has achieved on previous models, whilst the overall effect can be described as natural looking. HD picture quality is of course stunning.

Sound quality for the KDL40W5500 is only average, as is often the case with flat screen TVs – the narrow casing doesn’t provide sufficient depth. There is some lacking of clarity in low frequencies. It is recommended to add an external hi-fi or surround sound system if audio quality is particularly important to you. With digital optical and analogue stereo outputs, this isn’t a problem.

There are lots of connections ranging from a USB port, four HDMI sockets, a couple of Scart RGB sockets, an analogue VGA port for linking up to your PC, the speaker connections, and a versatile headphone socket with volume control independent of the main speakers and controlled via the remote. Much better than its competitors.

The Sony KDL40W5500 is easy to use.

The Electronic Programme Guide is readily navigated, although somewhat difficult to read on occasions. The remote is comprehensive, although it could be laid out slightly better.

Information on the features available, together with some tips, is available on-screen.

One of its features which is particularly useful is a Voice Zoom feature that increases the speech volume where the background music makes it difficult to hear sometimes. Very useful for some US movies! And it also has Audio Description – a narrative for those with a visual impairment.

The model is energy efficient, with an energy consumption of just 110 watts – low for such a TV. And it can be reduced to 60 watts with an energy saving button. An ambient light sensor cuts power in low light conditions. And the screen can readily be turned off whilst listening to the radio.

In conclusion the sound quality is only average, However, there are useful features and the picture quality, the most important consideration in any TV, is great.

The Bravia 40W5500 from Sony is a great television.
