Inferno – American returns to N.Y. from school in Rome to explore the hideous death of his sibling, and finds “sinister moms” inflicting paranormal mayhem on both sides of Atlantic. Surreal, spellbinding shocker by Italian terror maestro Argento does not make much sense, but it has a lot of style. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes,’84)

Believe in Me – Donovan moves to a small Oklahoma town in’64 to accept a teaching job, although when he arrives he learns he’s been assigned to coach the girls basketball team. What is more, the girls have no self respect and little help from the school. Genuine heartland account transcends above its recognizable underdog recipe. Donovan and Mathis as his supportive spouse are first rate. Cast includes Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dem, Bob Gunton, Heather Matarazzo, Alicia Lagano, and Chris Ellis. (108 minutes, 2007)

The Accidental Tourist – This film tells the story of Macon Leary, who is lethargic after the death of his son. This is compounded further when his wife decides to leave him because he won’t snap out of it. With a divorce imminent he finds himself involved with a new woman, who is helping bring him back to life. Now his wife decides to have him back, and he is faced with more difficult questions. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis, Amy Wright, and Bill Pullman star. (1988 Drama)

Mysterious Lady – An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, naive that she is a Russian agent. Another artificial plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes,’28)

Above the Law – This is Steven Segal’s breakout movie. He plays a Chicago Cop who takes matters into his own hands. As the title implies, he is ‘above the law’. He uses his large body and martial arts skills to wreak chaos on the bad guys. Stars include Steven Segal, Pam Grier, and Sharon Stone. (1988 Action)

Far and Away – A scrappy Irish tenant farmer hooks up, in uncertain style, with the equally energetic daughter of a affluent landowner, and together they travel to America to hunt for their final destiny in the’93 Oklahoma land rush. Excellent platform for Tom and Nicole, who are both good-looking and involving; the problem is a extreme dearth of good dialogue to fill the gaps between fight scenes. Cast includes Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Thomas Gibson, Robert Prosky, Barbara Babcock, Cohn Meaney, and Rance Howard. (140 minutes,’92)
