Every Hollywood producer has one aspiration in mind when they make a film. They want to put out a movie that is a huge hit that the public loves. Sometimes a motion picture will have all of the theoretical compulsory factors and it will still not succeed at the box office. There are no guaranteed recipes to make a Hollywood runaway success.

Sing, You Sinners – Gambling Crosby couldn’t confront accountability, regardless of jabbing his sibling MacMurray. Three siblings with different interests have a singing act. Can the other two siblings save the day when the gambling brother bets on a “sure thing”? Includes Wesley Ruggles, Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Donald O’Connor, Elizabeth Patterson, Ellen Drew, and John Gallaudet. (88 minutes,’38)

Believe in me – Still another’70s film that is all about drug tribulations. Working gal Bisset finds herself completely dependant on speed while living in the East Village section of New York City. Bug – film rendition of Tracy Letts’ play is tough to take seriously however not without a twist or two if you could recognize it as a stunt. This is simply bug versus man. Cast includes Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, Harry Connick, Jr., Lynn Collins, and Brian F. O’Byrne. (101 minutes, 2007)

The Last Seduction – Pathologically malicious and stunningly sensual woman ditches her spouse, snatches the money he’s made in a drug deal, and escapes N.Y.C. to a tiny upstate town where she allures and bewilders a local gentleman who becomes her latest patsy. Fiorentino’s spicy femme fatale makes Stanwyck in Triple Indemnity look like Snow White! The movie is a sizzling, seductive thriller from contemporary film noir master Dahl and author Steve Barancik. Cast includes Linda Fiorentino, Peter Berg, J. T. Walsh, Bill Nunn, Bill Pullman, Michael Raysses, and Zach Phifer. (110 minutes,’94)

Lantana – Heartrending, adult tale of relations obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose marriage has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he investigates the disappearance of a lady whose own marriage is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)
