There are many advantages and disadvantages of doing so, the most crucial of which will be discussed here. You have to consider all of them before making your decision.
The Advantages
The biggest advantage, perhaps, of utilizing a prepaid cell phone is the fact that they require no true commitment. You can stick with a prepaid mobile phone only as long as you want to. When you\’re finished with it, whether you have consumed your credits or not, you can simply stop or keep going. You can even throw your cell phone away if you like, nobody will be chasing you with bills and contracts. Another benefit is that you get to manage your budget better when you use a prepaid mobile phone. You don\’t have to pay a monthly bill if you don\’t want to. In fact, prepaid mobile phones are great for those people who seldom use their mobile phones for calling or sending text messages because they won\’t have to pay any more than they have to. You pay for what you consume and that\’s it. And loading some credits into your prepaid mobile phone is pretty easy too, as you can get credits from gasoline stations, corner stores, and more.
The Disadvantages
There are, however, some disadvantages to using prepaid cell phones. One is that if you go to a faraway place where credits cannot be found, you\’ll have to be very careful that you do not run out of the credits that you have left. Furthermore, if you run out of credits during an emergency situation, it will be very frustrating. Another big disadvantage is that prepaid mobile phones, the models themselves, actually cost more. Applying for a plan would give you free mobile phones or at least discounted ones. But, if you choose to buy a prepaid cell phone, you\’ll have to pay for the whole cell phone itself.
All in all, the decision of whether or not to get a prepaid mobile phone rests in you. If you decide that it will be more practical for you in the long run, then it might be best to fork out the extra cash for it. But if not, it may be best to go for a plan.
